I currently have a 20 GB iPod. Right now, there are around 12 GB of music and a 4.3 GB DVD Master image on it. Along with that, there are some calender entries and lots of text files in there. That's pretty much it really ...

and right now I think I have about 150MB of free space on it. Two operating systems and other data take up about 25-30% of the disk. The rest is music and audio books.

It's 16 months old, and still has the original battery. I'd say I still get 6-8 hours per charge--it has never been a problem. I just got an iTrip, which will come in handy down the road.

Despite its puny capacity compared with the new ones and bulk compared to the Minis, it's still the best Xmas present I ever got.

I've used one (a friend's), but haven't quite yet figured out the benifit of owning an iPod. To me it'd be just another device to carry around. Apart from the sheer capacity of storage it offers, it just doesn't compete with playing MP3's off a full featured organiser such as my Clie.

I know we've all heard it before that the Newton is dead, but what about a new version of the iPod mini with a flip out screen clam shell screen, chuck in some extra electronics and you've got a "real" organiser, with generous storage capacity for data and all the MP3s you really need.

Ssh! Apple's working on it. It's a big secret though, so don't tell anyone.
