My dock icons are 32px...

I would expect most Windows icons are 48px. That's the default size of icons in Mac OS X. Why should you throw away hundreds of pixels on an app launcher? Just make your dock the size of your icons and the problem goes away.

I care about physical size, not pixel counts so my icons are all set at 32px. I'd up the pixel count if the monitor had a higher DPI but it still wouldn't really matter (as long as the low-pixel icons were smooth-scaled up to the new size).

My MSN avatar was very small and I smooth-scaled it up to the required 96px and it looks fine. Giving MSN a non-scaled image resulted in horrendous blockiness.

Some people just have no poetry in their lives....

I'll bet when you look at a cloud you see x tons of water vapor. Spend some time with a child and learn to see dragons and unicorns again.

Except that you apparently didn't read through the hint. The hint submitter did not say his icons showed up pixelated in his dock, but rather in the App Switcher, which would not help if you keep your dock at 32 px or any other size.
But hey, don't let that stop your minimalistic grey world view of life.
