Dim the (early 2008) MacBook Pro's sleep light
Authored by: Anonymous on Jun 11, '08 12:52:42PM

That doesn't make sense. The LED brightness was a hack on top of the existing system; and it wasn't an "engineering decision" to disable the sensors when the lid is closed. An "engineering decision" would have moved the sensors to the outside of the case.

Besides, ambient light can change while a machine is asleep. Say, day turning into night... or heck, the opposite (not that I ever see *that* happen).

Anyway -- it proves it can be handled through software. Next task is to make it useful when the machine's awake; like YDL does.

'make it useful when the machine's awake; like YDL does.'

Wondering exactly what it is that YDL (Yellow Dog Linux for those not in the know) does with the light, and what's useful about it.

Thanks for any clarification you can provide.
