Create a global shortcut to launch System Preferences

Or you could just hit:

Option-brightness-FKey (or opt-F13/F14 on non Aluminum Mac desktop keyboards)

or

Option-sound-FKey (or opt-FKeys above the keypad on non Aluminum Mac desktop keyboards)

and get System Preferences to pop up.

Create a global shortcut to launch System Preferences

Option-<any media key> will bring it up and then Command-L is Show All inside of System Preferences.

So on any extended keyboard with sound controls you can Opt-VolumeUp (which will launch System Prefs and open the Sound Prefpane), then Command-L to show all System Preferences like you'd see if you clicked on the app.
