To keep the mount point from changing. This could be a bad thing if you have a program or script accessing an external drive.

The path will be something like:
/volumes/mydrive

If the user renames the drive to joesdrive
then the mount point will change to

/volumes/joesdrive

This change could cause your script to fail.
