Why this complicated method?
The point is that this method does not cost anything.
Why this complicated method?
It doesn't cost anything. So what? You can save PDF's through any app in Mac OS X that prints. Just select File.Print, use the pop-up menu to go to output options and pick "Save As PDF". You have to have a printer set up for this to work, but you can define a dummy printer over LPR if you don't have a real printer. Just go to Print Center and set up a printer. After that, PDFs in any app.

Try and make an image-sized pdf that way, you can't.
Ghostscript is another free option
I have RealPC (Classic app) running Win98 for some MS Access applications I have. I couldn't just print the Access reports directly to the printer attached to my Mac, and I didn't want to buy Acrobat, so I searched for an alternative. I found Ghostscript and a variety of GUIs for it. I only use the Windows version, but it looks like there are ports for OS 8 & 9 and UNIX (including FreeBSD and some X11 GUIs).

That's the spirit. |
