10.5: Fix the transparent menu bar toggle in 10.5.2

Interestingly, none of these hints actually fix the "no option" problem for me, and I had not used any "hacks" to disable transparency in the first place, opting for the safer "21 pixel bar" placed on the top of my desktop pictures...

The option to control this simply does not appear where it should.

I'm having the same problem; there is simply no checkbox in the Desktop preferences at all. This is the case both before and after running the command in this article.

And I don't have an old Mac either; I'm running a Mac Pro. I'm thinking it might have something to do with the fact that I'm running two monitors each on individual graphics cards? Anyone have a similar setup?

Yup, I'm on a Quad G5 with a GeForce 7800GT and the stock 6600, running three monitors, and I'm not seeing that checkbox either.
