10.5: Firewall settings and USB Printer sharing
Authored by: j_henry on Feb 04, '08 02:00:25PM

I had the same issue with my wife's G4 mini trying to share the printers hosted on my Intel iMac. After some experimenting I found that you can set the firewall in 10.5 to accept input to the printer drivers. Go to the firewall on the host machine and set it to define applications and services. Add each shared printer's driver to the list of applications and set it to allow input data. Now you can share the printers and you have a little bit more security. You also have the advantage of controlling which printers are shared.
