Avoid needless delays in System Updates

I've had had my computer hang up when configuring the installation, but only on the 10.5.1 update and I only have an 80 gig hard drive. I didn't use the lsof command, but considering the speed of more recent updates, it would seem that either the updater has a problem and shouldn't act this way, or that it only searches the files when working on a specific type of update.

Hmm… Since Leopard installs updates after shutting everything else down, wouldn't external drives be unmounted. Not sure how you could check to see if they are mounted or not.

on a side note...
I had this issue since 10.5 (both with System updates and some applications updates).
