A script to workaround slow ssh connection issues
Authored by: datasmid on Dec 29, '07 08:49:54AM
Long delays in ssh to anything that ends with .local because Mac OS X then first does a multicast DNS request (part of Bonjour) and after that a unicast SRV request to the DNS server.

Company runs a MS Active Directory domains ending in something like country.company.local.
.local domain is very tied to Bonjour which is hard to disable.

After some investigation we are now able to skip the multicast DNS
request using /etc/resolver/local.1 and start with a unicast query (see
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107800 and execute the
suggested script) but still delays

the MS server doesn't answer on SRV, so OSX DNS waits for a timeout. The server should send back an NXDOMAIN error. (please forward to MS DNS wiz...)
