Use Windows XP from Virtual PC with Boot Camp
Just starting this now so it might be handy to do a blow-by blow...I have Virtual PC V.7 with Windows XP Pro (SP2). I have a Mac Pro desktop and can only set up the CD on a PC I use at work. I will narrate complete with mistakes [Note: this starts with a mistake]
First, the URL for the site seems to be incorrect. http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/wxp That is what is working for me right now anyway. Couldn't find the .dll on the link provided, so downloaded it from here: http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?wnaspi32 I extracted and updated files...Not really clear why we need two downloads for the same folder... And now we move a third folder to the package...Might it be easier to have these all in one?? Wait [Note: found mistake], realized there had to be another page -- looked around and found the right URL, starting again using the following URL: http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/#wxp 1. Created a new folder and extracted the BCD fresh. 2. Copied the wnaspi fresh to the new extraction. 3. Extracted the wxp10.zip into the bcd 4. Copied the I386 folder to the wxppro\files folder (from the WHITE CD in the package. 5. Copied the win51ip, and duplicated it twice, and changed the name to win51ip.sp1 and win51ip.sp2 (still part of step 3 here). 6. Skipped steps 4, 5, and 6. 7. Did not add any files. 8. Opened the command prompt and navigated into the BCD folder (bcd111). 9. ran bcd wxppro (just typed "bcd wxppro" without quotes at the end of the path). At this point an impressive set of commands executes in the command window...pauses here or there. Finishes with some instructions as to where to locate the file in some truncated text. Mine was located here: C:\Documents and Settings\Richard\Local Settings\Temp While I am burning, I'll go back and make some notes... The whole process took a little more than an hour to get the CD together, do all the downloads and interpretations, etc. I have a CD...lets hope it works! I may post a complete ZIP without the I386 so there is less building involved for those who have the same product as me...I started trying to find an all-mac solution and wasted an entire day at it. I'll update here with installation results and boot tests. |
