Adaptec 29160N SCSI X
Authored by: saltydog4791 on Jul 12, '02 08:57:38PM

Hello All,

Maybe this is a stupid question but does this mean I can use a 2940U2W that I have from a Dell Server? It seems to me that if the 29160 works, this one maybe can as well. Do I risk any harm by giving it a go?

Mike

Adaptec 29160N SCSI X

I had an old PII system laying around with an Adaptec 2690UW card in it, what the heck. It took a lot longer to boot the first time, on the order of 10 minutes, AND it booted from a different volume but I reset that and booted into my normal OSX boot volume. Apple System profiler gives the following:

Not available
Card type: Not available
Card name: pci9004,7881
Card model: Not available
Card ROM #: Not available
Card revision: 1
Card vendor ID: 9004
Ethernet address: <not applicable>

But the card vendor is the same as the BTO card I got with this B&W G3, so I hooked up a drive and it seems to work fine. I haven't done a lot of testing on this card but if the other posts are any indication it looks like a lot of "PC Only" Adaptec SCSI cards may indeed work fine under OSX. It would be nice to see if anyone has access to other make and model cards what their results are.

very cool!
