Go to www.xrl8yourmac.com, click on the FAQ link, look for "Video Cards non-3Dfx types", and look at the third question. This has been covered extensively there. Also, if you have a PC you can use, go to this site: http://www.cybercoment.com/macgeforce.htm which has a table of different manufacturer's of Geforce2MXs that have been tried. It also has a bootable floppy you can use in a PC to flash a Geforce2 to work in a Mac. There is also a site set up with info on flashing a Geforce 3 at http://duxbury.la/gf3/gf3_1.html (though it is often inaccessable, you can find a cached page on Google) PCI cards have been known to work but not well and its not easy and its not guaranteed by any stretch of the imagination and you can screw up your Mac while you are at it. Geforce3Tis do not work since Apple has never made a Titanium to get the ROM from. People have been experimenting with the Geforce4Ti since Apple just released their own version but I don't think anyone has been successful. Check the Forums as well on xlr8yourmac as there are always people talking about it. AGP speeds are backwards compatible. I have been running a 4x PNY Geforce2MX400 64MBSDRAM in my 2x G4/450 for the better part of a year with no problems. There have been many reports of people flashing PC ATI Radeon 8500s to work using the recently released ATI update, though you're not reallys saving too much cash on getting the PC version instead of the Mac version.

xlr8yourmac - PCI Video Card
Authored by: larob on Jul 16, '02 12:51:48AM

I unfortunately have a Blue and White G3 that I have sort of upgraded and don't want to buy a computer with an AGP port.. I have noticed that VisionTek makes a 64mb DDR Ram PCI GeForce2 MX card called the 5564.. Has anyone had experience with this?? This would seem like a great PCI choice for those of us who need it - plenty of RAM, etc.. also, not that VisionTek is probably the people who OEM the Apple Card.. I just want to find out if anyone has tried this card.. please let me know either here or at larob@yahoo.com.. Thanks in advance!
