10.5: A fix for broken video chats and screen sharing
I've got an Macbok Pro which I upgraded from tiger to leopard. I've got a friend who has a PPC Mac Mini and we seem unable to make use of the screen sharing feature of ichat. He's using a .mac account, I'm on an older AIM account. We've both enabled screen sharing in the system prefs but for both of us, the screen sharing options are greyed out and neither of us can work out why. anyone have any idea why we can't get it working? we're not on the same network, but ISP's apart, but I thought that ichat was suposed to make it all work.
10.5: A fix for broken video chats and screen sharing
As the original post says, you have to turn OFF screen sharing in System Preferences:Sharing. I had screen sharing and file sharing turned on. I turned them both off (everything is off) and now I can conduct a video iChat session from a MacBook across an Airport to T1 in California to wired iMacs in Tennessee. Before the change I could initiate a session usually but it would freeze as soon the other end replied. For a month or so I could not even get a picture on the Video Preview. That required resetting the Power Management Unit (PMU). |
