DragThing yes!

I totally agree with using DragThing. It's WAY more customizable than the Dock can ever afford to be. In Tiger, I use the Dock to keep super-frequently-needed apps available and to see what's running. Otherwise, I use a drawer-style DragThing dock with 10 tabs to break up my apps based on type: Video, Graphics, 3D, Audio, Internet, etc.

Support a clever programmer, and get customizability you really should not expect from the Dock.
