win51ic and win51ip naming and placing question
Here's an answer to your question and an update on the entire process.
Bart's instructions can now be found here: http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/#wxp Follow steps 1 through 3. By default I found I already had files win51 and win51ip in the files directory. I did a copy of win51ip and pasted 3 new copies in the same location. These I re-named win51ic, win51ip.sp2 and win51ic.sp2 I don't know if all these are necessary, but it works. (Note Bart talks a lot about SP1 due to the age of this procedure. For our purposes SP2 is what we need) In Step 3 you will find the i386 folder on the Virtual PC disk 3, Additional Windows System files. If you don't have 3 Virtual PC disks you probably don't have the version that came with XP (labelled "With Windows XP Professional" on the discs themselves). In this cae you'll need to acquire your own Win XP system disc. Skip steps 4 through 7. Complete step 8 and your new CD will eject ready for use. Note: in step 1 the link to the winaspi32.dll file (http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/WNASPI32.DLL.html) no longer exists. Since I already had Nero installed on the PC I was using I was able to search for and find the file and copy it to the specified location. You may need to download and install Nero to find your own copy. Return to the Mac and start Bootcamp assistant. Select the option to proceed with installation and insert the CD in the drive. Disclaimer: I did the above on a "real" windows PC, if you try it in Virtual PC YMMV. hth, Steve |
