10.4: Remove the Google search box in Safari

This doesn't seem to work in Safari 3/Leopard. I can't get interface builder to separate the two boxes no matter what I try. I can only delete them both.

So I guess this hint really is 10.4 only :)

Indeed... have you since found a way to remove it?

Only with Safari 2.

I was running Safari 2 on 10.4 and was able to do this. I was very happy... until I installed Safari 3 and the Google search bar returned (I'm still running 10.4 by the way). I can't seem to find any way to remove it.

I don't use Google as I can get more relevant results with other search engines, so why do I have to have a useless search bar on every browser window. I don't want to go back to Safari 2 though - search finally works the way it should, tabs finally work the way they should, spellcheck finally works the way it should.

Of course none of this would even be an issue if Apple hadn't sold out to Google. The search bar should be customisable like in Firefox.
