Update for Acrobat 8 and 10.4

After installing some recent Apple updates, my PDF printer stopped working, yet again. This time the solution was to quite printer setup utility, acrobat, safari, and any office applications. Then remove /usr/libexec/cups/backend/pdf800 (the cups printer backend that Acrobat installs). The safe way to do that is to open the Terminal, cd to /usr/lib/cups/backend, and sudo rm pdf800 (you must be permitted to administer the computer, you will be prompted for your password). Then launch Acrobat. It will notice the pdf printer is missing and reinstall it (also prompting you for your password).

As to why you want to do this over the built-in OS X pdf services, Distiller still provides additional controls that are needed for professional work that are not available in the built-in service.

There's a type-oh in my hint. It should say 'libexec' where it says 'lib'.
