Poll: How Often Do You Turn Off the Power to Your Internet Connection?

I leave it on, but it's the WiFi for our two PowerBooks and networked printer. Not terribly convenient to run down stairs and turn on the router to check email. Oddly the Verizon supplied router doesn't have the energy usage printed on the device (ActionTec).

Homes use about half of the energy in the US. The most important step one can take to reduce consumption is to seal and insulate the house to stop using energy to heat or cool air that then leaks out. Next are probably refrigerators and large screen TVs. CFLs help a lot though.

But my iMac and all the associated plug-ins (almost those plug warts are warm whether the device is being used or not), and second monitor can warm the room noticably. I'm planning to get a device that will shut off all the unneeded devices when the iMac is off or maybe even when asleep.

Hermosa Beach, CA USA
