10.4: Recover from a dragging issue in Disk Utility

I just encountered this problem with my MacBook1,1. None of the methods involving the version of Disk Utility from the hard drive worked. Perhaps this is because that version was from a fresh install, and presumably the same as the one running off the disc. The Apple-supplied methods were useless because I don't have a Firewire drive or another Mac.

Anyway, asr worked (or at least I assume it's working; there is no progress indicator).

Update: the above command did not work (maybe the lack of progress indicators should have tipped me off), but it seems to be working now that I've added the --erase parameter.
