Use Windows XP from Virtual PC
Authored by: mfavazza on Aug 11, '07 06:00:04PM

This worked for me.

I originally bought Parallels 3 and installed it only to find out it won't import my Virtual PC 7 file. So this means I own keys to both Windows XP Pro and VPC7 but can't use them.

It turns out that Parallels 2.5 transporter imports VPC7 files - so I downloaded Parallels 2.5 from versiontracker.com, I re-installed it over my 3.0 installation and used transporter to import VPC7 file.

When it asked me for the key for Parallels I had to get a temporary key from the Parallels site which was fast and easy. I couldn't use my 3.0 key for 2.5. So at this point I have Parallels 2.5 working. I used transporter to import my VPC7 file and it worked just fine - right from my documents folder on the same machine. It took awhile.

Then I re-installed my Parallels 3.0 software on top of all of this. It worked fine. I'm up and running with my existing VPC environment. I thought it was a little odd that it didn't ask me for my 3.0 key. So either it was there from my first installation or there's a bug. Either way I'm up and running. Good luck!
