Use Proximity to detect an iPhone's presence
Authored by: randommaccess on Jul 23, '07 09:39:42AM

I've never seen anything that says "in no uncertain terms" will iPhone work only with Apple's Bluetooth headset. On the other hand, it definitely will not work with all standard headsets, either. I've seen reports of widely varying levels of success with third-party headsets. My venerable old Jabra, for example, will pair with iPhone, but not communicate with it otherwise. Other friends have had much better luck. This is a definite case of caveat emptor -- I'd only buy sets that Apple has certified to work with iPhone (and I don't think they've done that with any yet), or those that reliable reports say they've successfully tested.
