Caution: Do not rename a user's home folder
Authored by: etresoft on Jul 20, '07 10:46:44AM

I actually rename my home directory all the time. It is one of the easiest ways to restore from backup or put your account on a new system. All you have to do is create a new account with the same user name and password as your old one. Copy your old home directory into /Users with the name "newme" or something. Then, in the terminal, rename your old home directory to "oldme" and rename "newme" to your short user name. Log out and log back in.
