Use Gmail to send iPhone email on EDGE and wi-fi
Authored by: milkmage on Jul 19, '07 08:34:59PM
i had the same problem. could send and receive on wifi, but could only receive on EDGE. after a tech support call to my isp, I appended the port number to the server name and now i can send and receive on either EDGE and wifi..

my phone's outbound server setting is mail.ispname.com:587

also check out this tip from David Pogue: "As you complete the setup process in Gmail, a message says: "You can now retrieve mail from this account. Would you also like to be able to send mail as chris456@comcast.com?"
