One solution to a broken iPhoto 'Last Roll' feature

You might try giving the "Rebuild Library" feature of iPhoto Library Manager a shot. It basically creates a new library and then imports all the rolls from the original library into the new one, restoring the albums and photo metadata such as keywords as it goes along. There are a few items it won't bring over, including smart albums, album folders, books, and slideshows, so if you have a lot of those it might not be an optimal solution. But the fact that it creates a new library from scratch means that any corruption from the original library shouldn't be carried over. And, for full disclosure, I am the author of iPhoto Library Manager, but the rebuild function is free, so you can download it and try it out without having to register.

Thanks for the pointer; I'll try it on the backup copy I kept in its non-functional state, just to see what happens...
