This worked well for me in 10.4.9 -- thanks! I had to change the paths, though. One way to delete them is to open Terminal.app and enter:

sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache
sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kernelcaches/
