Just use QuickSilver

command-space dic return

All of the "quick access to..." hints should just reference using QuickSilver, Butler, or LaunchBar. They all do all of these things from a unified interface. There's no way that I can remember to go to Safari and type command-1 if I want to look up something in the dictionary and then go to another app and type another thing to get something else. If I want a dictionary I just type "dic" and it appears. All I have to remember is command-space. Same with macosxhints. Just type "maco" and it shows up.

With QuickSilver you can actually look words up without even launching the dictionary by doing:
command-space
.
[type in word to define]
tab
dict
enter

It looks complicated but after you activate QuickSilver, '.' puts it into text input mode. Then you can do actions on the text including looking it up in the dictionary or thesaurus.
