Save QuickTime 7 movies to disk

One way to save Quicktime stream is:

Let the movie fully download. Drag the movie to your desktop. This is only a link to the file at this stage. Double click on your new desktop link and let the movie open in the proper Quicktime Program rather than within Safari.

Now go to Export in Quicktime and save the movie to whatever format you like.

This method worked for me with no problems. I do have Quicktime Pro which may make a difference. I'm no expert on this stuff but this approach works for me.

Does this allow exporting without transcoding (re-encoding the video stream and causing lower quality than the source) ?
