Make a Nokia 6126 work with iSync
Authored by: tony_the_tech on Apr 09, '07 09:49:40PM

This came in useful for me, and it worked OK... But THIS FIX IS OUT OF DATE if you have updated to Mac OS 10.4.9.

10.4.9 has built in support for the Nokia 6131 built in. This is the European version of the 6126.

If you have applied this fix, remove the phone from your sync list in iSync and quit. Remove the patch (the 6126 entry in /Applications/iSync.app/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/PlugIns/PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources/MetaClasses.plist).

Those who have never applied this patch before can skip to here...

Now you can open the file /Applications/iSync.app/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/PlugIns/Nokia-6131.phoneplugin/Contents/Resources/MetaClasses.plist and apply a similar patch - copy the com.nokia.6131 entry at the bottom of the file and update it to 6126. I removed the com.apple.usb.vendorid-modelid and 0x0421/0x047B lines because I don't use USB and I don't know how to find the modelid (this will work for bluetooth). Also, don't change the family.com.nokia.6131 in this entry to 6126, becuase the family designation specifies the basic capabilities of the phone.

After making this change, fire up iSync and reattach to your phone. If you keep all your contacts and calendar dates on the mac like I do, it is easiest to set the phone to clear then sync on the first sync.

This new patch will give you better syncing (addresses not in notes, and image syncing).

For the record, this is how the 6126 entry looks in my copy:

Make a Nokia 6126 work with iSync
Authored by: timur on May 07, '07 10:38:09AM

I tried the updated instructions for 10.4.9, and it doesn't work for me. iSync just doesn't see my phone. Could this be because I'm using the USB cable? If so, can someone who has synced via USB tell me what else needs to be done?

I got this (iSync) to work successfully, using my 6133 and Bluetooth, without a problem
(by modifying the MetaClasses.plist file inside the Nokia-6131.phoneplugin of iSync's ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice).

The problem I have is that I don't know the best way to transfer camera image files from the 6133 onto
the computer (OS X 10.4.9 PPC) and into the iPhoto library.

I can't use ImageCapture.app since it always claims that there are no image files for importing (does it know to read the phone's Memory Card path?).

I don't see that iSync will take any camera images from the phone. Is there a way to capture photos using the iSync conduit?

If I could mount the phone's memory (card) as a filesystem in OS X, then there would be no issue.
When I xfer from my SonyEricsson phone (currently K750), it seems to be so much easier since the phone's memory (and card) are readable by a
variety of means (though I think that USB has different options than when I use Bluetooth).

The worst problem I have is that when I transfer camera images from the Nokia 6133 onto the Mac, those image files seem to have no embedded
timestamps (time of photo capture) ... whether I use Bluetooth File Exchange, or whether I use MacMedia's application "PhoneDirector" to get the files onto the computer and into the iPhoto library.

Sorry this rambled on ... any ideas? Thanks!! Larry.

Transferring camera image files from a 6133
Authored by: LC on Jun 22, '07 11:02:46PM

Weird -- the last batch of image files that I transferred by using PhoneDirector (which I just installed tonight) ...
the file Modification dates are correct, as they were recorded in the memory card of the (6133) phone.
So, they are showing up correctly in the iPhoto library now.
Even though I don't have those embedded timestamps inside the files, at least we have the file dates.

So the lesson I learned with this phone is -- by using Bluetooth File Utility to fetch image files from the 6133,
obviously the file timestamp will be new (on local file creation) and we lose the original mod date.
But it's looking to me as though when using PhoneDirector to fetch those files, the original timestamp gets preserved!!
That's good. Larry

I've been trying to get this patch to work with iSync and it has not been successful. Does this still work with OS X 10.4.10? If so, then what might I be doing wrong?

How did you get this work?
iSync will recognise the phone and allow me to add the phone, but then tells me "Plug-in for this phone model is missing". Is there an extra step I'm not doing?

Thanks

This works great on 10.4.11. Thanks. (I wonder why the original hint hasn't been superseded by this comment? Seeing as it's more supported by Apple, and works better? Is it just the lack of USB support?)
