Possible fixes for a MacBook Pro sudden shutdown issue
Authored by: phlops on Apr 03, '07 08:16:56AM
I work at an Apple Authorized Repair Shop and I can guarantee that there is nothing "magical" about solutions to problems such as these. I dealt with two suddenly shutting down MBP's yesterday alone (dozens more in the last year) and there is nothing about the problem that becomes "fixed" by "Swapping them [batteries] back and forth a couple of times [...] Each time I reset the power manager and plugged and unplugged the machines several times." This worked on the writer's machine because it's an intermittent problem and with enough patience he was able to finally hit upon some good luck where his machine stayed on for a prolonged period. As he himself admits, the problem was not permanently gone.

If you are having this problem take your machine to an Apple Store or an Authorized Apple Repair Center. We can and will fix your problem.

Possible fixes for a MacBook Pro sudden shutdown issue

I did take my MBP to an authorized service center, where it was thoroughly evaluated and no hardware problems found, but it continues to power off (not shut down, but simply power off) within 10 to 30 minutes after disconnecting AC power.

I have a case with Apple Support now and will be calling them again this morning.
