Transfer iTunes' song ratings from iPod to iTunes??
Authored by: foodragon on Jan 29, '07 09:29:15AM

Might be a little off topic, but it has to deal with ratings so I'll ask. Does anybody know of a program that will copy song ratings I've made on my iPod to songs in my iTunes library?

I keep my iPod on manual mode because my iTunes library is bigger then my iPod, and I like having the ability to download songs from multiple computers, but the one thing I miss is having the songs updated in the iTunes library if I change a song's rating.

Simple. Do not select 'Manage manually' but instead create one playlist that contains all the music you would otherwise copy manually to the iPod and select to sync that playlist (and only that playlist) to the iPod (you can naturally add as many of your other playlists as you want as well, space permitting).

If you copy almost all your music to iPod, you could alternatively uncheck all unwanted songs and select to sync only the checked items.

Unfortunately, that only get songs from whatever songs are in that playlist and doesn't let you add additional songs say from another computer or that you may not want in that playlist.

I had overlooked that you wanted to copy music from different computers, that naturally complicate things. What might work is the following:
1) a: On your main computer create the playlist with all songs you would like to copy to your iPod
b: Synk your iPod, restricting it to that playlist
c: Switch your iPod to manual and disconnect

2) At another computer, connect the iPod (select manual if asked) and copy the songs you want to add to the iPod, disconnect

3) Back at your computer, connect the iPod and:
a: manually copy the songs you have got from the other computer to your library and add them to the playlist
b: switch back to synking automatically and synk

If you are likely to connect to another computer, start the cycle again with 1c.
