One possible fix for iPods with hard drive issues
Authored by: tigfox on Jan 23, '07 01:32:39AM

4G hard drives are tricky. I've noticed on many that the connection between the drive and the board is the culprit. Reseating that connector via a "firm tap" on the bottom of the case (the dock connector end) usually gets it working again, at least temporarily. If you have the same issue again and again, open it up and tape the connection down. Wrap the tape all the way around the bottom of the drive to make sure it's secure, and close the case back up. Remember that cellophane (ie. scotch) tape is static producing, so make sure to ground yourself.

Of course, only if it's out of warranty!
