Load NPR's morning news show via AppleScript
Not really related to the applescript idea but for the last year, I've recorded NPR ATC, Morning, Fresh Air, and OnPoint from my local PBS station with RadioShark. I picked it up cheap at MediaPlay while they were going out of business in our area and it's worked like a charm. Only thing that I find irritating about RadioShark is that it won't allow my mac screen to sleep when it is active. Otherwise, I love it!
Radioshark
I, too, have a Radioshark. I tend to think of it as my Radio Tivo as I'm just as hooked on it as I am to my Tivo. I was previously using a combo of RealPlayer and Audio Hijack Pro, and I despise RealPlayyer, so it was great to get a solution that dumps Real Audio AND gives me so much more flexibility (pause and rewind, for example).
Radioshark
I have a RadioShark v1, too. It was great til they "updated" the software to prevent it from recording AAC streams at bit rates higher than 160. I went back to the old, buggy software, because it was able to schedule recordings to 320kbps AAC files, and the few fixes the new version offered weren't working anyway [it still occasionally makes a huge QuickTime file, then fails to finish changing that into your scheduled recording, leaving you with a huge file you can't open and must delete]. Since the new software didn't fix the prob, but took away features I used, I was glad it was possible to re-install the older version.
Audio Hijack Pro is my Internet Radio TiVo
I use timed recordings made by Audio Hijack Pro to do the same thing, in my case telling iTunes to tap a particular realtime internet radio stream (KQED is quite reliable) during the times Morning Edition is being broadcast, ie 3AM to 5AM. AHP also has nice facilities for making the recordings bookmarkable, adding them to specific areas of your iTunes library for later playback ,etc. |
