Create Smart Playlists for iPods without music in iTunes

How do you do this with the computer the iPod normally syncs to? Alternatively, does anyone know how to sync the contents of a smart playlist (which is itself dependent on a group of other smart playlists) without having to sync the contents of the parent playlists to the iPod?

I'm not sure what you're asking with the first part of the Q -- you would create a smart playlist and sync it.

Re: the second part -- I am guessing you have smart playlists which include "playlist is xxxxxxx" in their criteria in order to get around the fact that you can't have any of / all of (i.e. or / and) criteria in the same smart playlist. Unfortunately I don't know of an iTunes-based solution until Apple lets users have multiple sets of criteria.
