Use an iPod within its Apple-provided case

Dunno what pouch the Video comes with, but this also works with the greyish pouch of the 1G Nano, although sensitivity is not that good.
There are capacitance sensors underneath the wheel which can track your finger's position even through a layer of fabric. Try putting your shirt over your MacBook's tablet: you can still move the pointer around, but not that accurate anymore.

I just tested it with my MacBook, and well it's just as accurate.

As for the iPod, I've first used the iPod Socks I bought along with it, stupid as I was... things made my iPod scratch like hell, now I'm using the leather iPod holder... and works perfect, indeed the iPod still registers everything I move/scroll, 5th generation iPod 60gb video.

Been using an Apple sock for almost three years on my 4G 20GB. It has protected it from scratches the whole time. The back is still like a mirror, and the front only has the scratches that have occurred when it's not in the sock.

No problems with the Apple sock.
