In the terminal:

crontab -e

Then add the following line to execute once a day at midnight:

@daily	/Volumes/myapps >>~/Documents/apps.txt

Or for hourly execution at the top of each hour:

@hourly	/Volumes/myapps >>~/Documents/apps.txt

Alternatively, if you want this script executed, say, once every 3 hours:

0	*/3	*	*	*	/Volumes/myapps >>~/Documents/apps.txt

Etc. For more information, go to your Terminal and type:

man 5 crontab
