Use 'Cable Select' mode to possibly fix a dead drive

Did you try setting the drive back to Master mode (which should be the proper mode) to see whether the problem was poor contact of the cable and/or jumper?

If you did not, then the test is not conclusive.

I thought of that, and it's a good idea, but I was too lazy. I will try it tonight.

Auricchio,
Good ups! It was a bad connection with the jumper. I took out the jumper (to simulate a bad connection) and this put it in slave mode, and I got the exact same results (red light, which, I never mentioned before, blinks very quickly every ~5 seconds), then I put the jumper back in, but in Master mode and it works! So this hint should read "Reseat a jumper to fix a hard drive".
