Assign AppleScripts to Logitech mice buttons

Tried using the same trick to activate the iTunes scripts under os x 10.4.8 using logitech control center 2.1.1
Didn't work: the mouse's "Device Manager" preference application crashes after selecting itunes, and doesn't reopen until you've deleted user preferences and rebooted the logitech daemon.
