It should be noted this only works for newer video iPods. Non-video iPods keep on playing.

Not true... my 4G iPod behaves this way as well (m)

although it isn't 100% reliable. Like someone else posted, something has changed recently and occasionally the iPod won't detect that the headphones have been unplugged.

Mine too... Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't...

This works on my mini, although I don't use this intentionally so I can't speak to how reliable it is.

Not true. It worked as far back as the iPod mini :-)
