smcFanControl - Manually set some Macs' fan speeds

Notebooks are portable computers and are no longer called "laptops" by most manufacturers because of higher processor temps.

The manual that came from my MacBook as well as the one available on the Apple website state this:
"Do not leave the bottom of your MacBook in contact with your lap or any surface of your body for extended periods. Prolonged contact with your body could cause discomfort and potentially a burn."

I even use my MacBook on my lap despite that when I'm out somewhere and no table is available, like the nice waiting room for my car's repair shop. Nobody's perfect!
