Why...
Why does it make some people feel so good to write "this is a hint"? If a contribution is useful to you, say thank you. If you know it already, good for you, and no comment is necessary. I just find it wrong to dissuade people from posting. Because of negative comments, somebody may not have posted a hint that would be extremely helpful to some of the readers. Just my 2¢, I don't want to start an argument.
Why...
I'm in complete agreement with dkiechle. No one is impressed that you already knew this and think it's too obvious to bother helping someone else with. Why bother complaining or asking "is it a hint?", when it's already been posted? Just to show off? Everyone who posts such messages just gives the impression of being whiny, selfish or arrogant.
Because…
Because macosxhints has a tendency to get filled up with these sort of obvious "hints", which makes searching for real hints harder. This web site shouldn't be a how-to guide for basic UI. That's why I and many others feel the need to at least attempt to police the hints that get posted.
Because…
But you're not 'policing'. The hint remains, and it's pointless to complain about it. |
