Rate songs in iTunes via an AppleScript

I often play songs by request, straight out of the main library. Because I don't always want the following song to start playing, I have a habit of double-clicking a new song when the current one has wound down to its last few seconds. As a result, some of my favorite, most often played songs have near zero play counts. For me, the ultimate play-counter would ignore skips and count any song which is played either by individual execution or by having been included in a manual playlist. If I leave an album playing, the play-count goes up regardless of my feelings about a particular song.
