How to unmount an iPod that won't unmount
Authored by: Bakari on Sep 29, '06 09:53:08PM

Wish this worked for when I'm trying to unmount my camera media cards. When I eject them in iPhoto or the Finder, they just remount. This happens both in my Macmini and my Powerbook. Anyone have suggestions for a fix?

I have the same problem too. I have disk use enabled and usually find that if I wait a minute or so and then eject the ipod from the finder this will unmount it.

Putting the machine to sleep sounds suspiciously like just unplugging it to me....(OK I've done that too in the past, with no ill effects, but I use the above method these days). You can of course get the same effect by restarting.

It's not just iPods - I've noticed that OSX needs a bit of time for an app that has allegedly finished with, say a DVD, to actually release it so you can unmount it.

I have the same problem with an SD card reader. The trick is to use Disk Utility to unmount the card which appears as a drive then just pull the reader out of the USB socket. Otherwise iPhoto keeps trying to mount it. Works in Leopard too.
