this worked in 4 and maybe 5 for me, but not in 6
or maybe it worked in Panther but not Tiger
as soon as I get home, I will check to see if it works now!

Hasn't worked for me thru version 6 on a 10.3.9 box that has a FW drive attached, where all the iTunes songs are kept. If I forget to keep the FW drive plugged in, iTunes will start without complaining, but all the songs will have the ! icon beside them. If I quit iTunes, start the FW drive, then restart iTunes, all is well and the ! marks go away.

Hasn't worked for me in versions 5-6.x. I always got the exclamation marks. My music drive is on AFP drive
