See iChat images sent by Windows AIM users
Authored by: SuitCase on Sep 21, '06 06:36:25PM

This is a braindead behaviour of pre-Triton AIM for Windows, where if a user copies and pastes an image, it will be sent as a BMP-encoded file with the *noname* filename. Works fine if you're using AIM on Windows (albeit it's very slow, BMP is not a compact format), but it is just as stupid that Apple don't support it. For what it's worth, Triton fixes this issue and converts to PNG (I believe) on-the-fly sort of like iChat will convert pasted images to JPG.

Chax sort of fixes this issue. Double-clicking on the icon will open it in Preview, but there is a bug where you recieve more than one of them, in which case it only opens the first. To avoid all this? Try and get your friends to drag files into the window rather than copy\paste the image data when they can. iChat handles that just fine, and it's only when the paste command is used that this behaviour appears.
