Use full video resolution on 5th generation iPods
Authored by: chrisjniles on Sep 19, '06 12:48:51PM

I have a question about the increased resolution. If my memory serves, it was possible to play videos at any resolution that added up to 230400 (multiples of 480*480) pixels. Is this still possible with the new video codec for the 5 gen iPod?

I guess what I'm asking is if you can encode video at a different resolution as long as it adds up to 640*480 (307200) pixels. I think this would be great for playing wide aspect ratio videos (16*9 videos vs. 4*3 videos) on your higher definition TV, as you could have more horizontal pixels than 640.

It might not be much of a difference, but I was just curious.
