Hello,
I'm afraid this is not true. Pregap actually take space on the CD, they are blank (nul) data and are written at the end of each track, except for the first track (pregap duration is in TOC).

You can check that by yourself: put a 10sec pregap and burn the CD. Now open that track with quicktime and you will notice that the track is 10secs longer than the original audio file.
