10.4: Speak different languages shortcut key

You can set up a shortcut key to speak any selected text in "system preferences". I've done this (shift-cmd-enter) and use it when I don't feel like reading a long email (I prefer to gaze out the window).

I've tried using the speak text for french before and found it very poor.
