10.4: Add Nokia 6103 iSync support
As a Rogers Wireless Nokia 6103 user, I can confirm that the original hint does not work correctly and results in "no authorization" messages. Matt Stockdale's suggestion is the way to go for OS X 10.4.7. Here is the complete procedure for those who are a little unsure about it all: 1. You must have admin privileges or you won't be able to modify the iSync application. 2. Open the Applications folder (e.g., by selecting it in the "Go" menu). 3. Duplicate iSync.app by selecting it and typing Command-D. This produces a backup in case you mess up a later step. 4. Control-click (or right-click on a two-button mouse) the iSync.app icon and select "Show Package Contents." 5. Double-click "Contents," then "Plugins," "ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice," "Contents," "Plugins," "PhoneModelsSync.phoneplugin," "Contents," and "Resources." 6. Control-click (or right-click) the following link from Muriac and select "Download" NOK6103.tiff 7. Drag the NOK6103.tiff image from your download folder to the Resources folder you opened in step 5. 8. Control-click (or right-click) the "MetaClasses.plist" file in the Resources folder, select "Open With" and choose the "TextEdit.app" application. The file should open as text. Widen the window so the lines do not wrap. 9. Type Command-F. Enter "6822" (without quotes) as the "Find:" string and hit Return. The editor should select part of a line containing the string "com.nokia.6822" surrounded by "key" tags. 10. Triple-click the line to completely select it then scroll down to find the beginning of the next phone model, which is "com.nokia.7610." Hold down Shift and click the line before it; i.e., the line containing only the "dict" tag to select the entire phone description. 11. Type Command-C, Command-V and Command-V again to duplicate the phone description. 12. Scroll up and modify one copy of the 6822 description, changing the four instances of a model number (three "6822"s and one "6820") to 6103. 13. Type Command-S to save the file. iSync should now recognize the phone once you add it as a device in iSync. If you had previously added the phone, delete it and add it again. Bluetooth users should note that you must pair the phone; i.e., enter the same password in the phone and in the Devices tab of Bluetooth System Preferences. Also, under the Sharing tab, "Bluetooth File Exchange" and "Bluetooth-PDA-Sync" must be turned on and the little keys checked to turn on pairing. Under the Settings tab, the "Discoverable" checkbox should be ticked. On the phone, under Menu/Settings/Connectivity/Bluetooth, "Bluetooth" must be turned on, the computer must be selected as a device to pair with, and the password must be entered (see manual). Under Menu/Settings/Connectivity/Bluetooth/Paired devices/your computer/Options settings, "Auto-conn. without confirmation" should be set to "yes." Phew! Let's hope this is all fixed in OS X 10.4.8. |
