Cut portions of podcasts or songs in iTunes

This seems quite useful but when keeping the original podcast the new file is still a podcast even though it will not show up in the podcast directory. You can only find it via the search box or a smart playlist since it will not show up in the main library either.

Once found, you will want to change the artist to something different (otherwise it will not show up in the main library), maybe change title, album and genre (away from podcast) as well.

Now the file still sits 'physically' in the podcast directory (which might cause problems). To fix that, drag it on the desktop, delete it in iTunes and drag it back into iTunes.

My procedure up to to now was to use Audio Hijack Pro, where the timing has to be done manually but where the file can be automatically added to the library and when tagged properly before recording will end up up right away in the right place.

If you are interested in re-adding files to the Podcasts playlist, you may want try the AppleScript Re-Add Selected Tracks as Podcast. It fools iTunes into thinking the file has been downloaded over the internet by re-importing it from your Sites folder as an RSS feed. You must have Personal Web Sharing turned on.
